A professional counsellor works with an individual, couple or a family to better understand difficult issues and to find solutions best suited to each unique need.

Individual counselling assists people with stressful life situations, life transitions and change, psychological distress, emotional pain and relationship difficulties. Counselling helps people by increasing their understanding of the situration they are facing, providing a safe place to express and examine painful feelings, developing coping strategies, enhancing self-esteem and strengthing supportive relationships. Those who have experienced trauma and abuse are helped in individual counselling.

Couple counselling helps couples from all walks of life to better understand and resolve conflict through enhancing communication, intimacy and mutual sharing.

Family counselling addresses the complexities an difficulties of family life through the development of effective communication and strengthening family relationships. Many families who are experiencing changes following separation and divorce receive help from the counselling program.

At FSTV we observe confidentiality regarding client information and respect clients' right to privacy.

Is there a fee?
The counselling service is partially funded by the United Way of London & Middlesex. Those using the service contribute a fee towards their counselling on a sliding scale according to family income and ability to pay. No one is refused service based on ability to pay.

What do I do if I don't speak English very well?
Family Serice Thames Valley is committed to a broad range of people from many cultural and linguistic groups. Service is currently available in French, Polish, Spanish, Dutch and Arabic. We also have access to interpreter services if required.

How do I access service?
No formal referral is required. We prefer that the person wanting service call the agency themselves at 519-433-0183.
